Woohoo! You no longer need to restart UT to get the backgrounds to show up. Build 004 also fixed some minor bugs which had cropped up. The UMOD installer was not saving to the right places, and a very small script bug was fixed thanks to usaar33. Download the new version, it's still compatible with the additional backgrounds below, so you don't have to redownload those.


The osxBackgroundChanger is a stand-alone MOD for UT which will let you replace the UT background with any background of your choosing. The default package comes with some new backgrounds (taken from the OSX site collection, including the osx one just recently released), and a "plug-in" architecture so that you can add your own!

The MOD itself is quite simple and easy to use... just install it and select it from the UT Mod menu to get started. Select a background of your choosing, press the install background button, and restart UT. Once it's active, you can scroll through your backgrounds that you have installed. I have already made some additional backgrounds, but I did not include them in the main distribution to keep the size down. You can get them at the bottom of this page.

This is the main distribution itself. Take a look at the screenshot which shows one of the included backgrounds. It contains the mod which lets you change the UT background, and a complete SDK kit for making your very own backgrounds for it.

There is a catch though... you have to have UCC.exe to make your own backgrounds. (The UCC.exe compiler comes with the PC version of UT, so... mac folks will only be able to build backgrounds in Virtual PC.)

The SDK itself will be installed into the UT Help folder and is quite comprehensive. It includes sample files, templates, instruction, and a photoshop action to automate the production of correctly sized images, making building new backgrounds easy. Read the included documentation for more details.

These are some additional backgrounds I've put together which you can download and add to the main MOD. Download, put the .u and .int files in your UT System folder, and they will show up in the osxBackground Changer menu list. Couldn't be easier.

I have tried to add image creator info when known... if you are the creator of one of these images and you are not getting proper credit, please email me ASAP so I can give credit where credit is due!



This MOD would not have been possible without the assistance of usaar33 and Beppo. Basically, I ripped code from both of them to be able to make this. ussar33 had the idea of changing backgrounds in his OldSkool MOD, and Beppo had some nice code already written which he did for Infiltration which replaced the UT desktop. I thank them both for their generosity.
