12/05/2000 - [osX] Map Pack One Released - eko

This is the first of what I hope to be many map packs to get your third party map collection started. In this first map pack I have decided to include maps which should fill a couple of gaps which are left by the bonus pack and the stock UT maps.

Head on over to the new Map Packs Page for the full details and download links!

11/28/2000 - New Site Logo! - eko

Dragon came through on his word and has created a FANTASTIC new logo for the site. Check it out, isn't it beautiful... Click on the logo for a popup window with the full size logo he sent me before I had to resize it.

11/25/2000 - CTF Weapon Arena Mutators Released - eko

I have decided to release some mutators I made for my clan's practices. These mutators function just like the regular weapon arenas, but do not disable the translocator. So you can play CTF or DOM with just one weapon. Read a more extensive description at the mutators page, which BTW, has also been updated with more mutators and the latest versions!. All mutators are linked for direct download.

11/24/2000 - The good stuff keeps on coming! - eko

I have updated the CTF maps section with a ton of new maps and screenshots. There is now a fantastic collection of CTF maps there for your enjoyment, each with a short and to the point review. Remember, I don't host the maps here at [osX], but there are links to download sites at the top of the page which will pop up in a new window, so you can read my reviews and download the maps from those sites.

The DM maps section has also been updated with a whole ton of new maps I recommend as well. The screenshots are not up for those yet, but I thought I'd mention it here anyway.

My goal in maintaining those two pages is that I want a place where folks who are overwhelmed by the staggering amount of third party map choices will have a starting point for building a collection of maps. All the maps have been tested by me, they all play great offline with bots, and they all provide excellent gameplay. Start with the maps at those pages, and you are on your way to building your very own collection of maps!

11/22/2000 - Tons of Site Updates! - eko

I have a bunch of things to tell you about. First, the UMX Mac Ripper is back! Somebody was kind enough to send it to me (I had lost my copy and the website for the program went AWOL), so it is now hosted locally here for all eternity. The link for it at the "Files" page is now a direct download. This little proggie extracts the music from UT so you can listen to it with a suitable player, like SoundApp.

Next, the final content from MacUTosh is now up and accessible. Two help files regarding USB problems and screenshots with a Voodoo2. They are linked from the "Help" page.

Lastly, I have updated the "Files" page to correctly show the latest Mac UT Patch available (it was here on the News Page, but I hadn't updated the "Files" page yet). While I was mucking around, I realized it was a bit confusing and some links were dead! Everything should be easily accessible and clear now. Clear quick links to the Mac UT updates, the Bonus Pack, the Mac UT Demo, and just about any other thing you might want can easily be accessed from the new links. Check it out at the top of the "Files" page.

11/12/2000 - The Merger is Complete - Official Announcement - quetzal/eko

From eko:

It has been going on for a while now... but the merger of [osX] and MacUTosh is now finally complete. Quetzal has taken down the MacUTosh site and added a redirect link from there to here. [osX] is now THE one source for Mac UT information, tips, troubleshooting, news, chat, forums, etc. As I have already mentioned before, I am extremely pleased to be working with Quetzal, who is a class act beyond measure, and one hell of a nice guy all around. As I reflect on where the [osX] page has come from it's humble beginnings as ONE page of information hosted at iDisk, I can only take as much credit as the community which has built this house will allow. It is because of the people who visit the site, keep the forums alive and active, constantly hang out in the IRC channel that [osX] is thriving and has reached the 50,000+ hits milestone in 6 months. This "community" belongs to all of you, and I wish to thank you for making it what it is. Frag different!

From Quetzal:

When I launched MacUTosh, my intention was for it to be the site that I wished was around when I first discovered Unreal on my Macintosh: a resource that would provide the tools and information necessary to develop as a player and to become a part of the online Mac gaming community. Since the merger with [osX], I think that eko and I have achieved that original vision. [osX] is now a comprehensive site with information on the widest variety of issues for both the newbie and the advanced player. It is further a meeting place, both in the [osX] forums and IRC channel, for a community of players supporting a wide variety of UT gametypes and mods. As we approach the one-year anniversary of UT's release, it is exciting to see this community continuing to expand with new players coming to the site every day. This merger has re-energized me and eko as we continue our commitment to serve the UT Mac community together.

Shouts to Stephen :8:Gosub Crider, Jayden Barr, Olaf, Oliver :8:Kazar Phelan, and Andrew :8:Captain Gillette Rothman for making MacUTosh the succes it was.

11/10/2000 - Westlake Confirms: 436 Breaks Netcode - quetzal/eko

Those of you who have updated to 436 may have encountered problems joining some of your favorite servers. An announcement made by Epic regarding the 436 patch for the PC clearly stated that the new client would not break backwards compatibility, and that the only change would be that older pre-436 clients would not be able to connect to upgraded 436 servers. This information, it seems, is grossly incorrect.

Westlake Interactive confirmed today, in an email to [osX] forum regular, Pop Images, that 436 does in fact break the netcode with all servers running a version of UT below 432. While this was the impetus behind the simultaneous release of the patch on all platforms, this information is curiously absent from the extensive Read Me accompanying 436 and is in direct conflict with the earlier announcement made by Epic. In addition, this is not a Mac-specific issue. All 436 clients, including PC and Linux, have lost backwards compatibility in the netcode. Bottom line... the netcode is now broken with older servers, clients, etc.

For those of you who have not yet taken the plunge and upgraded to Mac UT 436, we strongly encourage you to do so. Not only does it fix a ton of bugs and prevent a horde of cheats, but if your friends have upgraded, you won't be able to play on the same servers as them without the patch.

11/08/2000 - Mac UT 436 Released! - eko

That's right boys and girls... Mac UT Patch 436 has been released! Kudos to the Westlake team for once again providing us with timely updates. Go get it!

10/30/2000 - The MacUTosh Desktop Backgrounds Collection Added - eko

The now justly famous collection of desktop background pics from MacUTosh has finally been added to the content at [osX]. These pics are gorgeous. I use the Peak Monastery one myself. They can be found here, or permanently linked from the nav bar in the "Files - Backgrounds" heading. What are you waiting for... go get em!.

10/24/2000 - Infiltration Page Updated - eko

With the release of Infiltration 2.8, I have updated the Infiltration Page here at [osX]. It is now a page with links to the essential resources you need for Infiltration. I have done away with the information regarding fixes, etc. for 2.75, and the maps list, replacing it all with links to "Real Maps", and "SOBServers". Also, seeing as how Infiltration 2.8 is offline only at the moment... I have put together a map pack of some of the best 'real' maps (Infiltration 2.7 and up) which have bot support and play great. The map pack has all the textures needed included in it, so you don't have to go an hunt them down on the web. It is an excellent way to complement the already great maps included in the 2.8 distribution. Enjoy!.

10/24/2000 - 50,000 - eko

Yet another milestone. The [osX] site reached 50,000 hits today! The site moved here to PU in April of 2000, so it has taken us about six months to get to this point.

Onward towards the next 50,000!

10/21/2000 - More Content Ported Over - eko

We have a ton of new content for you to spend your leisure time with. Featured articles from MacUtosh have now been ported over to [osX]. They make for some great reading, and you might learn a thing or two, so go check em out. They will be linked from the menu bar under the "Main" heading --> "Featured Articles". Here is a brief summary:

ngStats exPlained : A guide for the non-math major to the concepts behind the algorithms that determine your ngStats and the people who came up with the whole idea. Were you aware that your ngStats are now kept by the Borg?

10 Tips for Improving Your ngStats : Sure, playing sober helps, but what else can you do to improve those numbers?

ngStats deFined : The last in the ngStats series, this is a breakdown of what all those statistical categories are really tracking.

Customophobia? : The word from UT server admins on why they are reluctant to add custom maps, skins, mutators and the like to their servers. Includes advice on how to get your favorite maps into a server's rotation.

The Scourge of Spawn Camping : Includes comments from Inoxx on the decision that made CTF-Face a spawn campers paradise (Shocking: It was Cliffy B's idea!).

CTF for Initiate and the Lone Wolf : The perfect article for your deathmatch addict friends who never want to play CTF.

10/15/2000 - [osX] and MacUtosh Merge! - eko

The day has finally come to make the big announcement. [osX] is expanding!
After careful negotiations (hehe), the two biggest Mac UT sites on the planet have decided to join forces. Please give a BIG welcome to Quetzal, the webmaster from MacUtosh, who will now be the co-webmaster here at [osX].

Quetzal will slowly be transferring the content at MacUtosh over to [osX], so regular updates will be happening until this is finished. Already, he has done some fine work and ported some of his fantastic content over.

MacUtosh was the biggest Mac UT site besides [osX], and there is much content which will be new and interesting, as well as useful. This merger now truly makes [osX] the premier site for Macintosh UT content.

I am very happy and excited that this merger is taking place. Quetzal is a class act all the way, and as many of you know, I had been having trouble finding the time to keep [osX] current, and was searching for a webmaster to take over regular updates. This merger will allow two of us to maintain the site, and it has also rekindled my love affair with this site. I will find the time dammit!

Here is a summary of the new content so far:
  Optimizing UT's Performance
UT Options and Preferences
Aliases and Keybindings Tutorial
Uninstalling Third Party Mods
UT Emoticons

The Console Commands/Cheats section has been updated to include summoning commands for all the UT and Unreal monsters. And of course, the navigation bar has been updated to reflect all the new stuff. Keep checking back regularly, because as Quetzal finishes converting MacUtosh content, we will be adding it!

10/05/2000 - Site Redesign Finished! - eko

Ok... the site redesign is finished!! I really like the way it turned out, so please comment in the forums on what you think of the new look, and submit any bug reports, broken links, etc. to me by e-mail. The redesign is to provide a better interface, and future expandability... plus... I was getting really sick of the cross-platform issues. The site should look smashing on all platforms now... including UNIX! Heh.

Update - Bugs Found and fixed: Added some badly needed links to UT Skins sites in the navigation bar, as well as info on Aliases. Fixed the spacing on the footer... added some white space. Added the popup web search window... only available on the news page (also added that code to the navbar template for the index page). Fixed a navbar link problem by making references to pages already on the site absolute (some were breaking within like directories). Fixed the ad banner so that it displays side by side with the logo (neat frames trick!). Had to create a new navbar template for the index page, as the counter was getting erased with the old one. Adjusted the font size from 4 to 3 for headings in the content area. Adjusted the size from 3 to 2 for the bottom navigation table. Fixed the font sizes of the Unrealed Tools page, and made sure that the link for the UScript Textpad clips was working again. Removed the comments from the links on that page, and moved them to the TITLE tag so that the description pops up when you move your mouse over it.

10/03/2000 - [osX] Picked as Top Mac UT Gaming Site by IMG - eko

Inside Mac Games, one of the most reputable and popular print and online magazines devoted to Macintosh gaming, has named the [osX] website as their top pick for Mac UT Gaming Fan Sites. A quote from the article:

While there are a number of well-done web sites dedicated to the Macintosh version of Unreal Tournament, a site called [osX] easily rises to the top of the heap.

9/25/2000 - Status Report - eko

I am in the process of trying to find a new webmaster for [osX]. Until then, I am assuming the reins of the site again on a very limited basis... i.e. I'm just going to keep things tidy. The site is already set up as a static resource center, and it will stay that way until I can find somebody to take over and do regular updates. Fear not.. [osX] is not going anywhere...

9/20/2000 - Say goodbye to your new webmaster - disturbed

It is with great sadness that I resign as the webmaster of this web site. My reasons for doing so are best explained here. Please send any email to my personal address as this laptop is not set up to check my Planet Unreal account. I don't really know what to do about this web site. I would like to leave it up to ekoSonic to appoint a new webmaster, if he chooses to do so. Well, anyways, goodbye.

8/22/2000 - Say Hello to your new webmaster - disturbed

I (Jon Merriman a.k.a. Disturbed) will be maintaining the [osX] site from now on. Don't worry, ekoSonic won't be disappearing anytime soon. He will still contribute to the site occasionaly. As many of you know, I am also the webmaster of the Mac Gaming Research Center and it's Unreal Tournament "subsection". I won't be able to contribute a whole lot of time to this site until late September. Real Life (tm) has also taken its toll on me. In the meantime if you wish to send me email, you can now send it to my prestigious new Planet Unreal account here.

8/18/2000 - UT Mac 425a Update Released - eko

Due to some issues that arose with the 425 patch, Westlake Interactive have quickly moved and released a 425a patch. This patch will ONLY install over the 425 version. You must first upgrade to 425 and then install this new patch. Get it here.

8/15/2000 - UT Mac 425 Patch Released - eko

That will teach me to go on vacation. It just so happens I was on vacation when the new UT Patch for the Mac was released and, of course, there was no word of it here! Fear not... here is the link to get the UT 425 Patch: Patch Download Link. Anyway, I'm back from vacation and ready to go back to work as well. The patch download link will be here in the news and in the main page, of course. Enjoy!

8/1/2000 - New Site Logo

Well, I'm home for a couple of days and what do I do... I update the site a bit. I had to... Dragon sent me a fantastic logo for the site and I had to load it up... what do you think? Post reactions to the new site logo in the forums... let me hear ya!

7/18/2000 - Gone Fishin' (Not really... I don't like fishing!)

I'm going on vacation... so updates will resume sometime after the middle of August...Please try to refrain from sending me e-mail, as I will not be able to get any of it until the end of August. Thanks a lot, and I'll see everybody in a few weeks!

7/18/2000 - New UT Skins Page Online

Texture Universe is a great website for textures you can use in maps and a whole bunch of other goodies for Unrealed. They have a lot of good resources there for those interested in Unrealed.

On a related note, let me plug my Unrealed Reference again, and let you know that the Unrealed page here at [osX] has been updated with more links and content.... check it out!

7/18/2000 - Dissapearing Weapons

With the flowering of new mods out there, an old problem has resurfaced. The case of the dissapearing weapons. Has this happened to you? Your weapons all of a sudden don't autoswitch correctly, or they are missing?

Read about it and how to fix it at The Case of the Dissapearing Weapons page I put up.,

7/18/2000 - Dominator Added to the Mutators Page

Another mutator has made the "MUST HAVE" list on the mutators page... this one is called Dominator. It's a fantastic variation on Domination. Read about it and download it at the Mutators page.

7/01/2000 - UT Map Randomizer. Great mutator.

Paul sends me word of a fantastic new mutator for UT. This one is a must get! From the read me:

-----
The idea behind this Mutator is simple - to get Unreal Tournament to select maps at random, without changing any other part of the game. At the end of each level, the Map Randomizer picks a map from your map list at random. It
doesn't change your map lists, and it won't select a map a second time until all the maps have been played once. When all the maps in the list have been played, it starts all over again, picking maps in another random sequence.

Because it's a Mutator, it'll work in any game type, and you don't need to set anything up to get it started. I've tested it both stand-alone and using a dedicated server; both styles of play work fine.

For those of you who don't want to be tied to a specific set of maps, I've added a 'Use All My Maps' feature. This is turned on and off from the Mod menu - select 'Map Randomizer...' from the Mod menu and check 'Use All My
Maps'. When this option is on, the Mutator will ignore your map lists and pick a map at random from your Unreal Tournament installation, every time the level changes.

UT Map Randomizer 1.0

7/01/2000 - New UT Skins Page Online

Ythcal has got a skins page up! Very good selection. Go get some skin!

7/01/2000 - New Intellimouse Drivers Available

From Sebi:

Version 1.1 of the IntelliMouse drivers for mac is out and can be downloaded at this location It removes all the problems with UnrealTournament (I am able to use all buttons and the wheel without hax0ring away in the .ini file and rebooting).

7/01/2000 - Unrealed Reference Re-Released

Here it is. Version 1.5. If you downloaded the other version, get this one instead. It's got some html fixes, and even more content.

It comes in two flavors. As a compiled html file for windows, and as a web archive for the Mac. Content is identical in both versions. The windows version is a compiled html file. Download it and double click it. The Mac version is a self-mounting disk image with the entire webarchive in it. All you do is mount the image, double click the included file, and you will see it in all it's glory.

WARNING! It's BIG... 13 Megs!! That will give you an idea of how comprehensive and encyclopedic it is.

Get the Win version. (Zipped Compiled HTML File - .chm)
Get the Mac version. (Binary Encoded Self Mounting Image with a web archive inside - .smi)

Also, please visit the Unrealed Tools Page for more Unrealed info, downloads and links.

6/29/2000 - Unrealed Reference Coming Back

Heh, I feel like a yo-yo on this one. I was kinda upset regarding the Unrealed Reference thing, and I think I probably overreacted. I have gotten many nice emails too, begging for me to put it back up. So, I got off my butt, spent an entire night doing it, and it should be just a matter of a day or two before I can put the reference back online. That is, assuming no authors refuse permission, I think I have most of them tracked down at this point.

Get ready to download though, as I have gone ahead and included even MORE content since I was cleaning up some of the HTML. The reference is now 13Megs! Holy cow. It's worth the download, trust me. It is truly an encyclopedia of Unrealed/UScript knowledge. It will be designated version 1.5. Check back daily for news here of it's re-release. It could be as early as today, or in a day or two.

6/27/2000 - Unrealed Reference Pulled

I have stopped distributing the UnrealedReference. I had asked permission for inclusion from those authors who explicitely stated so in their tutorials, but I did not for others who made no mention. I simply included their name and email if available. It figures one of the folks I didn't contact had a problem with it. Oh well...

I had made this reference for myself, and only made it available because folks asked me to. Since my original goal was not to create something for distribution, I don't even remember where I got some of the stuff. Sorry, but it would take just too much effort on my part to make it completely "legit" and other authors may have a problem with their tutorials being included without being asked as well. Hence, no more distribution.

If somebody wants to track down every author in the collection and ask them if they mind or not if their tutorial is part of the reference, then be my guest. I might put it back up again if this is done.

6/27/2000 - Quick Update to Website

Added some links people sent in and reformated the Unrealed Tools Page into two columns, looks much neater now.

I have added a News Archive page. Only one month at a time will be on the front page now... previous months go into the Archive page. This way, the front page won't get bloated and load up too slow.

6/27/2000 - Unrealed Tools Page Added To Site

Ok, I am continuing on my Unrealed kick now. I have put together a web page for Unrealed.

Workin with Unrealed on the Mac under Virtual PC is quite a painful experience. It is dog slow, and quite fustrating. There are, however, a lot of cool "additional" tools you can download off the internet which makes working a whole lot easier and more fun. There are third-party class browsers, third-party texture exporters, and there are great text-editors for Windows which makes editing UScript files a whole lot more pleasureable than doing it from within Unrealed.

Therefore, I have put together the Unrealed Tools Page to consolidate all of these resources into one place. Everything (and I do mean EVERYTHING) that you need to get started with Unrealed, or extend it's usefulness can be found here. Links to download Unrealed itself, third party tools, reference materials, you name it. The only thing you need as a Mac user that I can't provide is a copy of the PC version of UT. That you will have to get on your own.

This page is for more than just Mac users though... as everything on the page needs to be used in Windows, it's really a Windows page as well. Let's just say that it's a multi-platform Unrealed page, shall we?

6/24/2000 - Unrealed Reference Released

I have just finished compiling a VERY comprehensive Unrealed, UT Editing, UScript, Mutator reference which I am making available at the osX site. This reference is a collection of almost all of the reference/tutorial materials that exist on the web for Unrealed and Uscript.

WARNING! It's BIG... 9 Megs!! That will give you an idea of how comprehensive and encyclopedic it is. No more searching the web for tutorials, references, etc. ekoSonic has done it all for you! I made this reference for myself, but decided to clean it up and make a Mac compatible version for anyone who is interested. It was a labor of love.

Get the Win version. (Zipped Compiled HTML File - .chm)
Get the Mac version. (Binary Encoded Self Mounting Image with a web archive inside - .smi)

6/23/2000 - UTilites is now hosted at [osX]!

Here is the announcement I was promising!

UTilities, a magnificent tool for cleaning up your cache folder in UT (among other things it does) is now being hosted at [osX]. Let's give a BIG welcome to Rich who has created this wonderful utility for us.

If you haven't downloaded this program yet, what are you waiting for! Head on over to the Utitlies Home Page and downlload it now!!

6/20/2000 - Website Redesign. AGAIN!

BAH! The frames sucked. I hated them. Whatever possesed me?

Anyway, I went and did a COMPLETE redesign this time around and have come up with a much more elegant and compatible navigation system. All the pages should look great in ALL browsers at just about any screen resolution.

I still want everybody's feedback regarding the navigation system. Head on over to the [osX] Forum and speak your mind. Let me hear it!!

6/19/2000 - Website Redesign.

The site has been redesigned to use a frame navigation system. The navigation frame is on the left side of the page and takes you directly to the main areas of the site. The old main page has remained intact, I have just placed anchors in it and set up the frame links to go to those anchors instead of the top of the page. If you liked the old way, just click on the "Main" button in the frames, and scroll around in the main page like you used to. Again, the main page is UNCHANGED, I have just added anchors to make navigation easier.

Traditionally, I don't like frames. But, seeing as how the main page now has so much content, and I've gotten e-mails from folks who can't seem to find their way around (don't ask me!), I'm going to try this out and see how it works. I've backed up the old site completely, so I can go back to it at any time I want. (Just in case!)

Well, let me know what you think. Head on over to the [osX] Forum and speak your mind. It is really important for me to know what public reaction to the site redesign is. Do you like the frames? Do you not? Can you live with them? Do they help out the site? etc. etc. etc. Let me hear it!!

6/18/2000 - Mutators page update.

I have added some more mutators to the Mutators Page, as well as removing some now incompatible mutators. There are a total of 39 mutators on the page now, all of them have a short description and are linked for direct download. These are the best of the best, and you should have all of them in your UT toolbox. 'Nuff said.

6/14/2000 - Two Month Anniversary (Almost!) = 20,000 Visitors!

Dammit. I knew I was going to do this again! I was unable yet again to get a screenshot of the counter when it hit 20,000 visitors. I had some things to do, and by the time I checked the page, it had already surpassed 20,000. Still, here it is.

It's been 2 months and one week since this site came online at PU, and I have to yet again thank everybody who has visited and continues to visit. YOU are STILL the reason this place is what it is.

Also, stay tuned for a very cool announcement to be forthcoming in the next couple of days. I'm keeping "mum" about it until it is all settled and finished.

6/09/2000 - Marathon:Resurrection Link Added.

I have added a link to the Marathon:Ressurection Project This is a planned total conversion for UT which seeks to recreate the Marathon game for the Mac in Unreal Tournament. Head on over to their site, see what they have got going and let them know you support their project! The permanent link to their site is in the links section of the main page under the Mod/Mutators section.

6/03/2000 - Infiltration Maps Added to the Map Pages.

I have added an Infiltration Maps Page! You can get all the Infiltration Map Packs here, as well as a comprehensive list of all the best other "real" Infiltration maps availble. Go there and start downloading!

UPDATED - 6/08/2000

6/03/2000 - New Screenshots.

I have added some new pics to the Screenshot Page! Some real good ones there!

6/01/2000 - More DM maps added to the maps page!

I have added some more maps to the bot certified DM maps page! There are now 114 certified, grade a, fraggin pleasing maps there with screenshots. Go check em out. If you want to expand your collection of maps for offline/online play...this is the place to do it!

6/01/2000 - E-Mail Change...AGAIN!

Ok, my planetunreal.com email address has been finally fixed. Here it is for reference: ekosonic@planetunreal.com. Please use this for all correspondance regarding UT. Thanks!

6/01/2000 - uMod Tool released.

Tom Hinton has a great utility for dealing with those pesky .umod format files: uMod Tool. Add it to your UT toolbox right away. It's very handy. It uninstalls .umod packages and does all sorts of other cool stuff. Mac Only.

5/25/2000 - Cosmetic Changes - E-Mail Change.

I have added a nice soft background to all the pages which I feel adds a bit more ambiance to the whole place. The black bacground was just starting to feel too darn morbid for me! It is set up as a static css background and looks fantastic on Internet Explorer 5. Netscape has a problem with it, and displays it as a regular background, which is still nice nonetheless. Overall, I optimize the pages for all browsers trying to stick with the HTML standards, but IE5 for the mac seems to do the best job rendering them...it really is a good browser, you should upgrade to it if you have not already.

I have also reverted to my old email address: ekosonic@planetunreal.com. My planetunreal.com email has been down for over a week and there seems to be no resolution in sight, so... I'm going to abandon it. Use the new one if you want to get in touch with me...cause anything you send to the old one will end up in a black hole somewhere.

5/24/2000 - Running unrealed on the mac for free!

I have put up an article written by Ernest Deakyne "Deaks" on how to install and use the Unreal Tournament editor "unrealed" on the mac for free.

As many of you know, the PC version of Unreal Tournament comes with the unrealed level/game editor. This editor is unavailable for the Mac, and until now, if you wanted to run it under Virtual PC, you had to buy the full Unreal Tournament PC version to get it.

Well...no more! Head on over to the UnrealEd on the mac page to see how it is done!

5/24/2000 - No more additions to the roll call.

I have decided to stop adding names to the roll call/directory. After the latest batch of names that I will post, I will no longer be adding any more names. Many of the names on the roll call I have never even seen in the osx IRC channel, and it is taking waaaay too much of my time trying to keep up with it, and deciding if I should remove folks, etc. So, for now, roll call updates will cease. The list will remain as a reference, of course.

5/16/2000 - Server Page Updated

The server page has been updated with the changes that have been made to one of the osx servers. It is now a DM 1v1, 2v2, server with some very fun small DM maps. Most of them are custom maps, so head oover to the server page to check out what you need.

5/7/2000 - One Month Anniversary = 10,000 Visitors!

I knew the timing wasn't going to get any better than this. On our one month anniversary, we have surpassed the 10,000 visitor mark! Unfortunately, I was playing UT when it happened, so the screenshot I managed to get wasn't exactly what I wanted...here it is nonetheless.

Thanks to everybody who has visited and continues to visit. YOU are the reason this page is what it is.

5/7/2000 - Links section updated!

I have updated the links section on the main page to be somewhat more comprehensive and well organized. I have added categories, and most links have link titles with descriptions. (If your browser supports it, just hold the mouse over the link for a small pop up balloon.) Just about every major UT site that has news/info is listed now.

5/5/2000 - Website Layout Slightly Changed

Well, I have decided to make the news page the front page for [osX], since most of the stuff folks will want to get to will be posted here first. It also keeps the [osX] page consistent in form with the other Mac UT pages out there.

The main page remains the same, but is now linked from the top of this news page. All other links refer back to the main page, which is where I think most folks will want to be after they get done reading the news. If you wish to return to the news page, it is linked at the top of the main page just as before. In essense, I changed the first page everybody sees and that is about it. If you TOTALLY disagree with this new format, start a thread in the forum and flame the heck out of me!

5/5/2000 - More mouse fixes info, and added content

I have added a page with shows you how to disable the startup movie sequence. This will make UT load up much quicker.

I have also added some more info regarding how to get the Intellimouse to work correctly with UT.

5/3/2000 - 413 Patch Info and Tips

I have added a page with info regarding the new features, bug fixes, new tweaks that are available with the 413 patch. Included is some info on how to bind ANY menu command to a key... I just discovered this last night, so it's an [osX] website exclusive!

5/1/2000 - Message Board Is UP

I have added a message board to the site. It has the capability of having different forums, etc. I know folks really like to provide feedback, so here is your chance. Post away!

5/1/2000 - Mac UT 413 Patch has been released!

The 413 patch for the mac version of Unreal Tournament has now officially been released. Go to westlake interactive for download sites for the patch!

5/1/2000 - Website Updates

MACUTOSH

UMX RIPPER
I have added a link to the UMX Mac Ripper, a new music extractor for Unreal and UT. Listen to that groovy UT music whenever you wish.

ROLL CALL UPDATE
The member directory has been updated with a few new names.

4/30/2000 - [SOB]eko - What happened to [osX]ekoSonic?
Just a short blurb for the 2 or 3 folks who are interested in knowing. Yours truly has decided to enter the world of organized online gaming. I am now a member of the SOB clan.

Fear not, my association with [osX] remains unchanged and I will continue to run and update the website with the most kick-butt Mac UT content I can find.

Again, this truly brings home the point of what [osX] is all about. Just a bunch of nice folks who like to meet online for games with other nice folks... nothing more. My primary hangout and place to go to find games is still the #osx channel. As a matter of fact, one of the reasons I felt good about joining SOB was the fact that most of the folks in the clan are people I play with on #osx already!

Anyway, I just thought I would post this little announcement so nobody starts thinking I'm going to take the [osX] page down or anything!

4/28/2000 - DM Bot Approved Map List Updated

The DM map list page has been updated with more maps and screenshots. This brings the total of maps listed to 104. That's 104 completely bot approved maps for your playing enjoyment. Check it out!

4/26/2000 - Many, many news items!
I have a ton of news items today. So without further delay...here they are.

MAC UT 413 PATCH
The 413 patch is closer than ever to being finished and should be ready soon. No official release date, but IT IS in the final stages of testing.

MICROSOFT INTELLIMOUSE FIXES
I have put up a page which has detailed instructions on getting the Microsoft Intellimouse to work correctly with UT, including full use of all the buttons. Thanks to [osX]Valen for the info!

OZUNREAL SURVEY
MacDragon over at the aussie Mac UT haven, OzUnreal, has put together a survey regarding the availability (or lack thereof) of UnrealEd for the mac. If you have anything to say regarding this issue, please go take the survey. MacDragon is working hard to try and get UnrealEd on the mac for us, so help him out and go fill out the survey.

ROLL CALL UPDATE
Two more names were added to the directory.

NEW BACKGROUND PIC
There is another UT desktop background pic available. Check out the pop up screenshot and go to the website to download it!

4/14/2000 - Website Update

I Have updated the look of the web page a bit. Changed the links so that they change color when you hover, and reduced the amount of red which is present. It was kinda hard to read.

I have updated the server page With information regarding the two osx servers. Go there to find out what you need to log in and play. The member list has also been updated with a couple of new names. A link for help with mouse problems has also been added.

4/10/2000 - Website Update

I have updated the main page so it is less cluttered and easier to find stuff. The finding each other link has now been moved to the top, since that is one of the most frequent questions which I am asked. Also, a link to the Mac UT 405 patch and the bonus pack has been added in the files section.

4/09/2000 - Website Update

I have updated the DM "Bot Approved" Maps page. It now includes pop-up screenshots for all the maps listed there. Go see it!

4/08/2000 - Website Update

I have added HTML versions of the commented User/UnrealTournament .ini files. You can now view (and search!) them with your browser.

I've updated the Console Commands/Cheats page. It should be much more informative. I have also updated the server page with links to the maps needed to play on the server. The speech commands tutorial is now an html file instead of the apple help guide file.

4/07/2000 - osX has a new home!

osX is now being hosted at its new home here at PlanetUnreal. In order to celebrate its re-launching, I have updated all the sections and added much more cool content.

4/07/2000 - osX server is up!

The osX server is up and running. Details are on the server page. Many thanks go out to the man who made this possible, [osX]Radius. He is hosting it on his machine, and has taken care of all the setup,/maintenance! Kudos, Mike!

The site has had some major enhancements. The links section is now much more complete. The help/resources section is now much more comprehensive and includes more offsite links to information. (Why reinvent the wheel right?)
