05/15/2003 - UT2K4 Announced and I'm Done - eko
DONE. I'm through with the Unreal/UT series (yea, yea, never say never, etc.). With the announcement of UT2K4 I've now been completely disenchanted. It is only out of sheer respect for the original UT, all the fun it provided me, and all the great folks I met because of it that this site remains up after today. Adios y buena suerte!
05/07/2003 - UT2K3 Mac Demo Released - eko
As of May 7th, 2003, UT2K3 for the Mac Demo is available. Initial reactions have been positive so far. 4 Maps. 2 DM, 1 CTF, 1 BR. About 135 Megs to download. Here are the download/mirror links that I know of:

02/11/2003 - Site Ramblings - eko
For those who are still underneath a rock, this site has pretty much become a static resource for UT information. Not too much news is ever posted here.
If you wish to read postings which are much more regular, I would direct you to my personal homepage: rambling ekoes.
Please note that the content is not always UT or UT2K3 related (heck, sometimes the content isn't related to anything at all!), but if I have a new map or some new content I've made for my eko's Creations page, the announcement will usually be made at my personal homepage from now on.
12/21/2002 - UT2k3 Goodies - eko
Well, I broke down and got UT2K3 for my PC... not so much to play it, but to update my maps and use the great UED editor. I love to create... it's like having an adult LEGO set.
So far, a new version of CTF-Mythos and a replacement Announcer is what I've been busy with. Go to my creations page to check it out.

09/27/2002 - UT2k3 and [osX] News - eko
Unreal Tournament 2003 for the PC. Today, the first copies of UT2k3 hit the shelves in the USA. It is now confirmed that there will indeed be a port for the Mac. It is being done "in-house" and will be for Mac OS X only. Expected release date is hopefully before X-Mas (Don't hold your breath).
The IRC channel has a stats page which is now local, you can see your favorite names and quotes right here. Join the IRC chat on channel #osx on the irc.progameplayer.com network.
The Mac UT FAQ has been updated to V. 1.4 with some new information regarding UTPure (many mac users are having SERIOUS problems with UTPure) and various other tidbits.
07/22/2002 - [osX] Final Words - eko
Unreal Tournament. One of the best first person shooters of all time. We will always remember it fondly, and some of us will play it until it is no longer compatible with our newest systems. What a great ride we have had. Let us look to the future, and hope for the best.

04/16/2002 - [osX] Cleanup and Thoughts - eko
We're winding down in this great game of ours. What is there to say about Mac UT that hasn't been said already in these pages? We've been a comprehensive resource for your Mac UT info from the very first day, going all the way back to the Mac UT demo days. Quetzal came on board with lots of content after we merged with his site, and [osX] still stands as the premier website for Mac UT. We've stood the test of time.
No we're not the first one's on the block with the "latest" news about UT... but this site was never meant to be that. It was always intended to be a repository of information for Mac users who were starting out with UT, or needed some additional info. This website was based and founded on one very single concept. It is the website "I" wish would have existed when I first encountered and got the original "Unreal" game. Back then, I didn't know if maps were crossplatform, where I could go to get maps, how to tweak the game. I wished there had been a site like [osX] back then... and now there is.
So here we are on the doorstep of UT 2003. I have not decided yet if I will undertake updating this site for UT 2003 for the Mac when it is released... but I have decided to keep the current information around in it's present form. I figure a lot of it will be useful and carry over to 2003 anyway. To this end, I have cleaned up most of the sections of the [osX] site, removed some things, and have refined the content. All the essential stuff remains, and will always be here. The Mac UT FAQ, which is now my favorite resource to work on... was updated to a very current state for this general website update. The FAQ, along with my commented INI files, are still the bread and butter of the content. IMHO.
And let us not forget what has REALLY kept this site alive for so long. The fantastic community of Mac folks (and non-Mac folks!) that resides in our forums and our IRC channel. You all are the BEST, and the ONLY reason I have stuck with this thing for so long.
Now that the website is all cleaned up and I don't barely have to bother with it anymore... I can concentrate on mapping. Enjoy the resources!

04/14/2002 - CTF-Imperial Circles Released - eko
My 8th UT map, CTF-Imperial Circles is now available for download! This map is a departure from my regular small map style (aside from Waldo, they are all very tight), and is big enough to accomodate up to 32 players if you want. While there is a lot of space in the map, it is not overwhelming big, and you can still get from one end of the map to the other fairly quickly. You can download the map from my idisk mirror at the moment, and the map is now on the rotation at the [osX] server. The name of the file is ctf-imperial_circles.zip.

Visit this forum thread to see some screenshots of the map. Enjoy!
01/16/2002 - Almost There! - eko
I've gotten almost all of the downloads back up and available! The unrealed reference is now back up and available for download, as well as all the mappacks. eko's maps all now have two download links, one at Fileball.net and an alternate mirror (the one I had setup in the meantime).
The only files which are still currently unavailable are some of the unrealed tools and some of the desktop/wallpaper pics (not the osxBackground Changer, all of those ARE available). It's just a matter of time before I get those up.

01/09/2002 - Site Updates - eko
Spent some time coding today and have fixed many links which got broken in the move to BU! Also, I've redesigned the navbar so it is much simpler to navigate and find stuff. Some downloads are still offline, and some are no longer direct download links (like the background changer), but I think you can now get to well over 90% of the stuff here.
I will be making a very concerted effort to post news on a very frequent basis. So check back daily as things will be getting more lively around here!

01/01/2002 - Welcome to our new home! - eko
The time has come to leave our home at planetunreal.com. We are now hosted at beyondunreal.com, where we are one of a select group of sites which has been invited by QAPete to form part of the newest and hopefully greatest Unreal Engine web portal.
The URL for this website is now osx.beyondunreal.com, please update your bookmarks accordingly.
Along with Nalicity and many of the great sites which were formerly hosted at planetunreal, beyondunreal.com will be our new home for the coming future. All other things regarding [osX] remain the same. The forums are still in the same place, but unfortunately, file downloads are offline until the new fileserver system at beyondunreal.com becomes 100% active.
I have set up a mirror for my maps and mods and such at homepage.mac.com. If you need any of my maps, this is the place to get them at the moment. You can also get the osX background changer there and changer backgrounds which are available for it.
Most everything else here should be working. Over time, as we get settled in here, we will be updating the download links in the different areas of the site like the wallpaper downloads, the unrealed mac stuff, etc.
02/13/2002 - [osX] iFrag This Friday - eko
It's time for another iFrag. This Friday (February 15th), we will be splitting up into teams and having a good time fragging each other in a CTF match.
Here is the IP for the server: unreal://169.229.8.35:7787
Here is a forum post with more details about the settings and how you can sign up to be on the blue or red team.
01/31/2002 - UT for OS X Preview 2 Released! - eko
The port of UT to the OS X operating system is coming along nicely. Westlake Interactive have released a new preview which is much more stable than the last one. Initial reactions to this release are very favorable.
Download the release at macgamefiles.com and make sure you read ALL of the documentation before trying it out.
01/30/2002 - [osX] Server and iFrag - eko
The [osX] server is running the Frogblast Marathon conversion maps in anticipation to this Fridays iFrag which will try and replicate the old Marathon gametype, "Kill The Man With The Ball". All maps are available via a very fast redirect if you don't have them and want to download them while in game.
Here is the IP again: unreal://169.229.8.35:7787
Here is a forum post with more details about the settings and iFrag.
01/28/2002 - [osX] Server and CTF Notes - eko
The [osX] server is up and running 24/7 with UT CTF. (Capture The Flag) The rotation consists of small to medium sized maps, all available by a very fast redirect if you don't have them and want to download them while in game. The server is hosted by Mallard on a dedicated box hooked up to a T1 line.
Here is the IP: unreal://169.229.8.35:7787
The name of the server begins with [CSHP] [osX] CTF... so you can find it in your UT browser. Bookmark it!
In honor of the server being up, stable, and playing pretty darn nicely, I had some time this afternoon and put together a VERY brief CTF article which explains the way that I approach CTF and some essential keybinds which all good CTF players should have.
Read the article HERE.
After your done reading the article, visit the forums with any comments you have.
01/16/2002 - TacOps 2.2 released, new UMX ripper available - eko
Tactical Ops 2.2 has been released and fixes numerous bugs. Get the updates HERE .
A new file has been added to the Files section of the site. The Unreal UMX Ripper. Some folks have had more success extracting their Unreal/UT music with this tool. Both are now available at the FILES page. Get 'em!
Good news for the files which are now TRULY offline. Planet Unreal yanked the plug on us without mercy and deleted all the file mirrors that [osX] had over there. EVEN though they are part of the fileplanet system and really could have stayed. However, I have my iDisk mirror for the maps and changer set up, and now I have another file space which I will be linking from that can hold the bigger files. Stuff like the map packs, etc. When the BU filespace eventually comes online, there will be multiple places to download the stuff, thus always insuring quick access. I'm in the process of setting up the new file downloads, so stay tuned to the news page for details coming very soon.

11/07/2001 - [osX] iFrag - eko
Friday, November 09, we will be having and official "iFrag Night", kindly hosted by Mallard.
We will meet up at Mallards server starting around 8PM EST. Meet in the #osx IRC channel (irc.enterthegame.com) around that time and get ready to rumble, or go directly to the server if you have it bookmarked.
THE GAME: Olk Skool CTF
iFrag is a periodic reunion of Mac folks from [osX] (and anybody else who happens to attend, all are welcome) who get together for a night of fun fragging, usually with a theme. The theme for this friday is "Old Skool". The server will be set up with the stock UT CTF maps. Boxy and Bolt will also be on the rotation
BUT, there is a special treat as well! All folks attending this Fridays iFrag will be treated to the new and improved version of CTF-MythosSE. V101. You will ONLY be able to get the map if you come to iFrag and download it when it comes up in the rotation.

10/02/2001 - UT X Troubleshooting Tips - Quetzal
Westlake Interactive has posted a Web page devoted to troubleshooting the recently released UT for OS X beta patch. It will be updated as new issues and workarounds are discovered so, if you are having problems with this beta release, check back often.
Westlake's UT X Troubleshooting Tips.
On a related note, [osX] regulars are having varying degrees of success with the new patch. You can check out their progress and post your own experiences in the forum.
09/29/2001 - UT for OS X Beta Released - Quetzal
Westlake Interactive has just released a patch that allows UT to run natively under OS X, effectively carbonizing the application. This is a beta release however, targeted at early adopters and other brave souls. If you install it, do not expect any support from Westlake or MacSoft. Mark Adams, who has developed the patch in his "free" time, has compiled a list of known issues and warns users to expect crashes.
Flieplanet was being a bit wonky today, so your best bet is to snag the patch from MacGameFiles.com.
Be sure to post your impressions and experiences in our forum.
09/11/2001 - Memoriam - eko
What is there to say about September 11th that can be put in to words? As many of you noticed, the main [osX] page was replaced by a memorial page for a few days. Let us return to our lives now, forever changed from this day forward, but our spirit shall not be diminished.
08/16/2001 - Introducing Project Seppuku - Quetzal
We have landed an interview with Paul Snively that should be of great interest to all of you hoping for a UT editor for the Mac. He is a lead developer of Seppuku: a suicidally ambitous attempt to create a cross platform map and mod editor for all Unreal engine-based games.
If you want to make maps or mods on a Mac, Seppuku may be your best and only hope.
The development team is also looking for some programmers and other staff to join the project. For the whole scoop and contact info, check out the interview.
08/10/2001 - IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT! We're switching networks (AGAIN)! - eko
Due to the persistent problems with the utgames.com network, and it's future (and stability) being in serious peril, we are moving the #osx channel to the ETG (EnterTheGame) IRC network. The #osx channel will now be found at "IRC.ENTERTHEGAME.COM" instead of "irc.utgames.com". Please update your IRC clients to point to the new network, and make sure that UT is also connecting to the new network. If you need help with either of these topics, please take a look at the following articles at the site.
ETG is the premier gaming network on the internet. All of the major gaming clans, as well as all the gaming ladders are hosted at ETG. PlanetUnreal, and Nalicity also both have their official IRC channels hosted at ETG.

07/21/2001 - UT Evihcra Archives - eko
Two HUGE pieces of news to report. First of all, the new UT Evihcra archives are open to the public. How do they differ from other places? Well, here is the press release:
Good news for UT gamers everywhere! Evihcra.com is now fully engulfed in the fun and excitement of UT in a new online game file archive and community called, "The Liandri Depot". We have a few mods in place already such as the Marathon:Resurrection and Tactical Op betas, but it is up to you the user to take advantage of this free archiving service to populate the data base....
Read the entire press release HERE.
I certainly know I will be putting my work on there and give it my full support.
To celebrate their opening, they have the exclusive download of the Marathon Resurrection Beta MOD for UT. If you yearn for the Marathon days of old... GO THERE now to download it. It's awesome. Here is part of the press release from Lt. Et'he:
Team Unpfhorgiven is pleased to release the first public beta test of its MOD for Unreal Tournament, Marathon: Resurrection.
Marathon: Resurrection is based off of the 1994 Mac-only first-person shooter classic, Marathon, developed by Bungie Software, Inc. Marathon: Resurrection recreates the Marathon environment using the capabilities of Unreal Tournament's graphics engine to the fullest, complete with a full, 3D world
and fully-animated 3D weapons. Marathon physics and gameplay have been recreated and enhanced where the team thought
that the result would be improved gameplay. Marathon: Resurrection is now available for download, free of cost, from
the evihcra.com mirrors.

07/13/2001 - Snak IRC Tutorial Updated - eko
It seems that Snak (my fav IRC client for the Mac) has a new setup scheme when you first run it. This made my old Snak IRC tutorial here obsolete. I've updated it with all new screenshots and step-by-step directions for connecting to the #osx IRC channel. I've also included a section which explains how to connect to a second network at the same time. irc.enterthegame.com, for example. Go to it if you need the new instructions.

07/09/2001 - [osX] vs [MA]Alpha Recap - The_DoK
From eko:
Well, it was a helluva lot of fun... many thanks to all who showed up, and a special thanks to Sparky for being a great admin. [osX] just BARELY took the first game, FACE, in overtime. VERY intense game, and probably the best one. [osX] was victorious in games 2 and 3 by a wider margin on Thorns and Lava, respectively. Sparky's server crapped out after the second map and we had to finish off at the [osX] server... thanks to everybody for their patience!!
Here are the ngStats:

05/29/2001 - CTF-DarkForces102 - eko
If you're into the Star Wars univers, and/or ever played the great FPS "Dark Forces", then this map is for you. This is a magnificent map by Drake 'Ramsees' Steele which uses converted textures from "Dark Forces". It is completely original in its look and plays like a mofo. You will feel like you are running around inside one of 'The Empires' bases. This map has been slightly modified by me for playability with the authors permission. Get it, it rocks!

05/28/2001 - Marathon Ressurection Exclusive - eko
Well, I woke up today (late) and found a bit of goodnes in my mailbox. It seems Lt. Et'he from the Marathon Ressurection project decided to grace [osX] with seven "exclusive" screenshots of their work in progress. CTF-K-Lined has been updated to V103. I succumed to player suggestions again and lightened up the map some more. As well as added some more accurate and realistic lighting. Get it from the new Creations page, or the older news item a bit further down has the updated download links too.

05/16/2001 - Neural - IRC Stats - eko
I don't really understand why it's taken me so long to provide this link. I must really be slipping. Neural has for a while been keeping stats for the #osx IRC channel. In addition, he keeps a low profile FTP server for us to get our maps and such. So... have a look at the stats. They are mighty cool and fun to have a look at!

05/04/2001 - [osX] Site Redesign Finished - eko
Welcome to the new [osX] Mac UT Pages. As you can see, we have a brand new look. A site redesign was one of the things which were in the works for when we reached the 100,000 hit mark, and it has come to pass.
Now let me introduce you to the man who made it all possible... new co-webmaster and all around html coding guru... The_Dok.
The_Dok is responsible for the beautiful new site design which you have in front of you today. Let's give him a big welcome and round of thanks. Also, special thanks to Dragon, who has put his fantastic graphic skills to use and has yet again produced a brand new [osX] site logo for us. I thought the old one looked great, this one is just out of this world.
On a personal note, I can't begin to express how grateful I am for the fantastic talent and time that has been donated by everyone affiliated with [osX]. Quetzal, Neural, Mallard, WidowMaker, Dragon, The_Dok, and many more whom I'm surely forgetting to list, all make [osX] what it is today. I am proud and honored to be a part of such a fantastic online mac community. [osX] - THE Mac UT Site.
05/03/2001 - CTF-Waldo World Updated to V102 - eko

05/03/2001 - Site Redesign Coming Along - eko
Here is a glimpse of what the [osX] site will look like soon. The_Dok has been hard at work redesigning and recoding. The look is not that much different than before, but much cleaner and classier all around.
So far, this is the only page that is updated. How about posting your reactions to the redesign on the forum?
04/27/2001 - Housekeeping! - eko
Well, I moved most of the news to the archive, so check there for any recent stories. The front page was starting to get a bit big and bloated! Also, the menubar has been updated, old links are gone, and everything streamlined
Here is a summary of recent events around [osX] :
- Our [osX] CTF/iFrag server moved to a new IP: unreal://207.168.27.125:7777

04/25/2001 - Forums Are Down / NVIDIA News - eko
Yes, I know. The forums are offline at the moment. This is a scheduled "down" time which was announced by EZBoard. So we all just have to be patient while they relocate the boards to their new servers.
In totally unrelated news... I got an e-mail from a reader which informed me of something that was published in the Editor's column of the May 2001 edition of MacAddict magazine. (The print version, not the online version. I have a link which verifies this story now!... MacWorld UK)
"Apple showed off the not-quite-released GeForce3 card and demonstrated how this formerly PC-only powerhouse graphics chip is going to own the graphics market. The kicker is that Mac users will get this ultrafast graphics card before the PC market does. This is an amazing coup for Mac gamers - for one brief, shining moment, the 733MHz Power Macintosh G4 with the GeForce3 (you'll pay more for the card - it doesn't come standard) will be the best gaming system on the planet, bar none. "This is huge news, folks, and it's refreshing to get something this cool before the dark side does - proof that Apple is making the right partnerships and bringing the hardware and software Mac users want and need to our market."
04/24/2001 - Old [osX] Member List - eko
While I was cleaning out a HD, I found this.... the last list of members I had before I stopped maintaining it. The old timers will remember the list. Just for fun... :)
Here is the old member list.
04/20/2001 - iFrag Friday - eko
Don't forget that iFrag begins tonight at the [osX] server. It begins sometime arount 6-7 PM EST, and goes on for as long as there are people. Server IP is: unreal://207.168.27.125:7777. Details are unclear yet... but it may be DarkMatch CTF tonight... still not sure.
04/19/2001 - 100,000! - eko
100,000 hits on the site! WOOHOO!! I didn't see the actual number, but I have a pretty good fake I made. :)

If you are the lucky guy or gal who saw the counter hit 100,000, PLEASE send the screenshot to me at eko@planetunreal.com.
04/08/2001 - CTF-WaldoWorld Released - eko
CTF-WaldoWorld is my third all original map, and my most professional. It is, like all my maps, simple in layout but big on gameplay. The map is a medium sized arean, and great attention was paid to flow, routes, and gameplay. It is mucho fun with at least 4 per team.
The bots defend quite well. They don't attack as well as I would like them too, but they can follow orders, and even play just fine on their own... you will want their backup trying to get the flag out, trust me.

04/02/2001 - Back to english I say! - eko
I hope everybody enjoyed my little April Fool's joke. I threw it together at the last minute for a good laugh... I don't think it was very convincing though... :)
I you missed it... I proclaimed that the site was no longer going to be in English, but rather in Spanish, due to the growing Hispanic population in the US. HERE is the page from yesterday... enjoy!
03/31/2001 - Running UT Under OS X - Quetzal
OS X has been out for a week, and in terms of its support for UT, the news has been disappointing so far. Since UT has yet to be carbonized, it can only be run in the Classic environment of OS X. RAVE and Glide support in the Classic environment is a big question mark at this point. Since UT's OpenGL code provides less than satisfactory performance, your only real option is to run UT in software mode (yuck!). Combine this with the complete lack of input sproket support, and OS X does not yet prove itself to be a viable option for running UT.
Still, if you are determined to be an early adopter of the next generation Mac OS, you do have a solution available to you. You can partition your hard drive and create a dual boot sytem with OS X installed on one partition and OS 9 installed on the other. This will allow you to still run UT and any other applications that are not yet supported by OS X's Classic environment while the bugs get worked out of this bleeding edge OS and the software that it will have to support.
If you don't know how to create a dual booting Mac, you can find instructions for the process here. For some general tips on installing OS X, you can also see this piece over at MacBuyersGuide.com.
Some other links that may be of interest:
OS X's System Requirements and Buying Guide

Q3A FPS Benchmarks of OS X vs. OS 9.1
That last link provides some good news for gamers closely eyeing this new OS. The carbonized version of Q3A put up numbers in excess of 100 FPS in OS X, well in above its performance in OS 9.
03/25/2001 - CTF-DeepSpacePhor Released - eko
CTF-DeepSpacePhor is my second all original map. The map is an old space station run over and abandoned by the Phor. All new textures borrowed from Marathon Infinity (the great Mac FPS) Like my previous map (CTF-Boxy) it is simple in layout but big on gameplay. This map was my attempt to get away from the square shape in UnrealEd and explore some new construction possibilities. It is a simple layout, and kinda cavernous.
The bots are ruthless. They don't use the low grav tubes much, but that's because the other way is faster. The bot support is in there, they just always choose to go the other way. Bots will take alternate routes to and from the flag, and will defend very well. The map provides a great fight and some fun flag runs.

03/18/2001 - CSHP 4f Mac Problems - eko
Mallard has some details regarding the latest version of CSHP 4f. It seems there is a serious bug which occurs with mac clients. From Mallard's forum post...
Well, so far I have found that I am unable to connect to any server running CSHP4f using my Mac. If anyone else has had success (and I don't know see how you could, even with a virgin install of UT) connecting to a server running version 4f, please post HERE. (I should clarify... you can CONNECT to servers, but as soon as you try to move using the mouse, it flags you as a cheater and kicks you...) I have already alerted Dr.Sin (creator of CSHP) to the problem and he has contacted Westlake for assistance.
>
Let's hope that this gets taken care of soon... from what I have heard, there are numerous reports of bugs with the latest CSHP, not just mac folks either.
03/18/2001 - Unreal Package Tool Released - eko
A very cool utility (program, actually) has been released for your consumption. Here are the details from one of the project leaders himself.
Today, I am proud to release a technical preview of a related project that I have been working on called Unreal Package Tool. Essentially this tool allows you to preview and extract packages from UT (and other Unreal engine based game) files. Currently, I have support for textures, sounds, and music. This is a limited release. I'm only announcing this here as this code is still fairly early in development.
You can get the utility HERE.
And go to the forum POSTING to read more about it...
03/17/2001 - CTF-Boxy Updated to V102 - eko
CTF-Boxy102 is the update to CTF-Boxy. This update adds a couple of things. First, the level is zoned and has zone infos now. I've added a skybox (actually, a starbox), and I've added some decoration so it's not so plain. I've fixed and improved the lighting... much better now, and fixed and rearranged some textures.

03/15/2001 - IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT! We're switching networks! - eko
Due to the official in-game browser for UT switching to a new network, we are moving the #osx channel to the new network as well. The #osx channel will now be found at "IRC.UTGAMES.COM" instead of "irc.gameslink.net". Please update your IRC clients to point to the new network, and make sure that UT is also connecting to the new network. If you need help with either of these topics, please take a look at the following articles at the site.
- Setting up the UT client.
- Setting up the Snak IRC client.
03/14/2001 - CTF-Boxy Available - eko
CTF-Boxy is my very first map which I created from scratch. Up to know, I've worked on botpathing, converting levels, and mods/mutators. I'm not much of a mapmaker, but I needed to give it a shot. It's a simple map, based on an old Marathon level I made, but the bots are good, the gameplay is fast, and the map is very FPS friendly. It's a VERY small download, so give it a shot and post your reactions in the forum!
Download the map HERE.

03/14/2001 - [osX] Map Pack Three Released - eko

03/12/2001 - CTF-DarkCity][ Available - eko
CTF-DarkCity][ is my CTF conversion of my DM conversion of the great Unreal map Darkcity. Basically, I changed the map in a couple of places to make it CTF capable... but surprisingly, the map worked VERY well as a CTF map already... I would say it's even more fun than the DM version. Textures and lighting have been changed to suit CTF, and I redid the bots from scratch. There is also a demo I made which gives you a tour of the map. Please download and test the map (specifically the bots) and post your observations, comments, etc. in the forum thread for the map.

03/06/2000 - [osX] iFrag 02 - eko
Friday, March 09, we will be having the second official "iFrag Night", kindly hosted by Mallard.
Thanks to Mallard's generosity, and the success of our first get-together, we will be making "iFrag" a bi-weekly event on Friday afternoons/evenings.
We will meet up at Mallards server starting around 6PM EST. Meet in the #osx IRC channel (irc.gameslink.net) around that time and get ready to rumble, or go directly to the server if you have it bookmarked. The ongoing password for the event will be "iFrag", without the quotes and IT IS case sensitive. :)
THE GAME: Dominator
RULES:
- Dominator is a new gametype / modification of Unreal Tournament that lets you play Domination maps in a 'Capture the Flag'-like manner.
- At the start of the game a flag will appear somewhere in the level.
- The right side of the HUD displays its location and your distance from it and a handy compass.
- If someone is carrying the flag, a flag icon will appear indicating the flag carrier's team color.
- To gain control of the control points you must touch them while you are carrying the flag.
- If you are not carrying the flag, touching a control point will have no effect.
- If your team manages to control all the control points, you will score a 'cap.'
- Then the control points and flag will be restarted.
Maps will be from a standard UT installation and the Dominator Map Pack available here at the [osX] site. The dominator pack can be downloaded from the [osX] page HERE. The pack also includes the Dominator mod we will be using, so get the map pack, and install the mod. It's TONS of fun. Check out this link to get an overview of the pack and the MOD.

DarkCity is a big map which was MADE for snipers... best enjoyed with real people, let's try and get everybody to download this one and play it online.

12/21/2000 - Small Site Update - eko

12/15/2000 - 3dfx Bites the Dust - Quetzal
Chipmaker 3dfx announced today that it would be closing shop. They will be selling all of their current inventory and patents to rival NVIDIA for $70 million dollars in cash and 100 shares of NVIDIA common stock. Also, as part of the deal, 3dfx will be dropping their patent infringment lawsuit against NVIDIA at the close of the transaction.
What this means to Mac gamers is murky at best. We can only assume that NVIDIA will continue to sell any existing Voodoo4 and 5 chipsets for the Mac, but as for the future, it's anybody's guess. NVIDIA has said for some time that they are interested in entering the Mac 3D graphics card market, but have been reluctant to do so because of Apple's refusal to offer any chipset not manufactured by ATI as a BTO option. We will be following this story with great interest as it develops and it's impact on the future of Mac gaming becomes more clear.
12/10/2000 - User.ini Template File - eko
Do you like to tinker with your User.ini file? I certainly do. But one of the problems with it is that it is very disorganized. Here is where this template comes in. This is a stripped down version of the .ini file I use, organized so that it is easier to find the keys you have assigned. There are section dividers for most things. I got the idea for doing this from looking at Q3A autoexec files which are organized quite nicely so you can easily see what all your key binds, etc. are.
So, take a look at it here, and download it to your HD so you can plug in your own key bindings. This file is not intended for you to use "as is" (although you certainly could, if you happen to like everything the way I like it), but more as a template where you can plug in your own values into the different sections. Enjoy!
